When Weak is Strong

2 Corinthians 12:9 "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness."

The apostle Paul had a physical infirmity, the exact nature of which has never been determined. Whatever it was, it was a source of pain and embarrassment to him as he carried out the duties of his apostleship. He called it his "thorn in the flesh." Repeatedly he asked the Lord to rid him of this painful "thorn," but repeatedly the Lord replied, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in (your) weakness."

In God's unsearchable wisdom He knew that Paul would be a more effective witness to the Gospel with his thorn than without it. In a sense the "thorn" became a part of Paul's witness; not only did it keep him truly humble, but it also enabled him to give an eloquent firsthand testimonial to God's grace.

How about you and me? Do we have our thorns in the flesh, our limitations, our weaknesses? Even these can become open doors for the spreading of His Gospel. To each of us He says: "Give Me your weaknesses, and I will make them My strength." The important thing is that we recognize our weakness and dedicate it to His service. He can do wonders, even with our weakness.

PRAYER: Lord, I am weak but You are mighty. Use me as I am, dear Lord. In Jesus'' name I ask it. Amen.
